Our Tutors

Thrive Tutoring is a boutique service in Tennessee for one-on-one, in-home academic tutoring, academic intervention, and test preparation. We also offer advocacy/IEP support, homeschool teacher matching, and group classes.

RELATIONSHIPS ARE KEY

Our work is rooted in relationships. We get to know our students and families on a personal level—we attend sporting events to cheer on our students, join our families for dinner, and stay after tutoring sessions from time to time to play a round of basketball in the driveway. It makes our day to receive texts with excitement about an awesome grade on a big test. We love celebrating your child’s success with you. The genuine relationships we build with our families have a lasting impact—in many cases, far beyond the time we tutor your child.

We do not use a cookie-cutter curriculum or a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching and learning. We start by assessing student learning needs and goals. Then, we develop lesson plans and tailor approach in order to meet the unique needs of each student.

Meet our Tutors

Aaron Kleinschmidt

Elementary, Middle School
Language, Math
Aaron is a recent graduate of Belmont University, where he studied Spanish and International Politics, with a minor in Data Science. There, he competed on the Speech Team, participated in Student Government, and served as the first-ever VP of the Civic Engagement and Advocacy Club. He also spent a semester abroad in Spain, which cemented his decade of Spanish studies and expanded his love for Spanish culture. As Aaron prepares to return to Spain on a Fulbright Award to teach English, his passion for language and cultural exchange continues to grow -- a passion he seeks to share with students of various ages and levels.

Alyssa Schaub

Middle School, High School
Math
Alyssa graduated with her bachelor's degree in secondary education and mathematics from Belmont University. Alyssa taught high school math for two years. She provides encouraging support while teaching students to build off of their existing knowledge through effective lessons that tailor to the needs of each student. Currently, Alyssa works with the campus ministry in her church, but still has a passion for teaching mathematics. She hopes to help students develop strong problem-solving & strategy skills through the process of mastering their math content.

Amy Dondero

Middle School
Executive Functioning, Math
Amy has a bachelor's degree from Furman University and her master's degree in education from Relay Graduate School of Education. She joined Teach For America after college and taught 6th grade math in Nashville. She is now a school administrator leading data and assessment for an entire charter network in Nashville. She is very strong in supporting students who need help across the board with their assignments and developing executive functioning skills.

Ashlen Powles

Elementary
Math, Reading/ELA, SPED
Ashlen is an outstanding MNPS teacher in the Antioch area who supports students with a wide variety of learning needs--lots of students with math/reading-based learning differences. She does an excellent job of assessing students to figure out where their gaps are, meeting them where they are, and building a plan to meet specific academic targets. She has experience working with K-5 across all subject areas, but literacy for K-2 students is really her sweet spot. Her bachelor's degree is in education from Eastern Illinois University.

Avery Thrush

For the past two years, Avery has taught middle school here in Nashville at a STEM-oriented charter, focusing on making science content accessible for diverse learners. Avery graduated magna cum laude from Wake Forest University with her bachelor's degree in psychology and minors in education and neuroscience, and recently obtained her Master's of Education from Lipscomb University. In July, she was awarded a Voices of Change fellowship through EdSurge for her work writing about the K-12 educational landscape. Skilled at differentiation, she is excited about working one-on-one with learners to meet their unique needs and expand their opportunities within education.

Bailey McCarl

Bailey is a Williamson Co. native--grew up in Spring Hill and still lives there. She earned her bachelor's degree in neuroscience from Belmont and is currently pursuing her master's degree in psychological sciences from Lipscomb. At Belmont, she received many distinctions: merit scholarship, dean's list every semester, top 25 in her graduating class, etc. She has served as a teaching assistant, tutor, and camp counselor at Deer Run for years.

Bella Arbelaez

Bella is a current Vanderbilt Junior studying Neuroscience and Medicine, Health, and Society on the pre-med track at Vanderbilt. Bella served as an extended day teacher and camp counselor working with kids as young as 2.5 and as old as 16. She also spent several years babysitting and tutoring a diverse group of children in high school and her freshman year of college. Bella thoroughly enjoys forming personal relationships with each of her students and caters her sessions to the student’s interests to ensure maximum engagement. Bella has tutored in a variety of content areas, with most experience in Science, Reading, and Math. At school, Bella does research for early detection of Pancreatic Cancer, serves as the diversity chair of her sorority, and is the treasurer for Katie’s Art project which brings art therapy to hospitals in the Nashville area. Aside from school, Bella enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, baking, and taking ceramic classes. She has plans to attend medical school in the future, with plans of pursuing pediatrics.

Caitlin Flaherty

Caitlin is currently an elementary school teacher at a charter school in Nashville. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and her master's degree in art therapy. Caitlin made a career change about four years ago. She loved being with kids in her art therapy work, but decided to take a teaching position because she wanted longer-term relationships with students. She's found that teaching is the perfect place for her, and she's able to incorporate hands-on and creative activities from her art background into her classroom/tutoring lessons. In tutoring, her focus is on K-4 with an emphasis on reading instruction.

Caitlin Price

Elementary, Middle School, High School
Math, Reading/ELA, SPED
Caitlin received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Special Education from Florida State University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis at Vanderbilt University. Caitlin was a classroom teacher for 4 years in Florida specializing in working with students with significant disabilities, focusing on students with severe challenging behaviors. Caitlin is skilled at creating lessons that cater to her students interests, while also teaching the desired content. She values creativity, movement, fun, and individuality to help her students achieve their goals.
