Meet Our Chamber Music Director

Miguel Alvarado, a native of Tampa, Florida, began performing professionally at just thirteen, quickly becoming a fixture in the region’s vibrant RnB, Latin, and Rock scenes. His musical talent and ambition led him to earn degrees from both the University of North Florida and Middle Tennessee State University, where he was twice honored with prestigious Downbeat Poll Awards for Small Group Jazz Composition and Jazz Vocal Arrangement.

As a performer, Miguel has built a dynamic career, sharing the stage with legends across genres—including Marcus Roberts, Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band), Dave Cook (Taylor Swift), George Clinton, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and Kelly Clarkson. In 2020, he received the Nashville Industry Music Award for Jazz Performance and released Idile, an acclaimed album on Jeff Coffin’s Ear Up Records label known for its innovative sound and evocative storytelling through music.

In addition to his performance career, Miguel has been a dedicated educator since 2007. His students have earned placements in top music programs and performed at venues such as the “Essentially Ellington” festival in New York City. Many have gone on to collaborate with leading figures in the music industry. Miguel brings a modern, student-centered approach to teaching, grounded in improvisation, composition, and electronic music, with a deep commitment to helping young musicians discover their unique voice and thrive artistically.
